OSU

The Web Access Awards were initiated as a way to recognize faculty, departments,
colleges and programs that meet the University's standards for accessible
web design (The Ohio State University
Web Accessibility Policy) while demonstrating excellence in design and
communication.

Reviewer comments: Dynamic and colorful site that meets
MWAS standards. Good example of a highly accessible image-based site that
does not use Flash, but still looks intriguing and interesting. Uses a lot
of pictures – but all tagged with thoughtful information. Includes clear
navigation, good contrast of colors through style sheets, and maintains a
distinct design.
- John Tully, Goldberg Program. Department of
History: http://history.osu.edu.
Reviewer comments: Good example of a site moving toward accessibility.
Designer re-organized and redesigned the site recently, enhancing accessibility
by removing "pull down" menus, and conforming to many other details to the
university's accessibility standards. The site loads quickly and works beautifully
on multiple platforms and browsers -- Mac OS and Windows, Explorer, Opera
and Safari. Also includes a clear statement regarding accessibility.
- Web Design Team (represented at the ceremony by Greg Nagy and Josh
Coldwell). NCCTE (National Center for Career
and Technical Education), National Dissemination Center: http://www.nccte.org/webcasts/description.asp?wc=97.
Reviewer comments: As a site dedicated to the dissemination
of information, it is clear the National Research and Dissemination Centers
for Career and Technical Education puts accessibility at the forefront. This
page includes a variety of multimedia and alternate format content (videos
and PowerPoint) all developed with accessibility in mind; uses a style sheet
for formatting to insure site transforms gracefully when styles are turned-off;
and includes text menus and options to turn menus off for easier printing
and simpler page navigation.
