So Close

links with some indicator of type of file being linked

Long Description: Under curriculum information, various majors are listed (sociology, criminology, etc.) with a link to information about the major. The for each entry, two links are associated. The first link includes a full description plus idenfication of the file link (e.g. PDF). Next to that link, the second link only lists the file type (e.g. text only) with no description of which major it is associated with.

second example of links with some indicators of file type

Long Description: In this list of University Organizations, each link is followed by the descriptor "(pdf file)." However, this descriptor is outside the actual link tag.

Speaker Notes:

How NOT to Identify PDF Links: So Close

We call this example the "so close" method, because each link is properly referenced as leading to a "(pdf file"). However, that reference appears outside the link tag. So, once again, if the user is navigating using a LINKS LIST . . . (next slide).
