COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Important: Employees who are interested in taking this Web-based Orientation Program should check whether this format has been approved as fulfilling the Orientation Program requirements of their respective county.

The Program will take two weeks to complete. Trainees can enroll during the week before the actual program starts. The program involves self-study of the posted materials and discussions in two on-line chat room meetings. The study material can be accessed through the Internet and downloaded for print.  If there are questions that need to be answered right away, the trainees can contact the instructor anytime either by telephone.


WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

 

Week 1

5/1/02 - 5/5/02

Goals of the first week:  

Trainees will enroll in the course and practice navigating  signing on, accessing course content, printing content, joining and participating in chat room discussions, and taking quizzes and exams.

On-line meeting:   

Wednesday at 5/3/2000 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

All trainees are required to log-on for at least half an hour and contribute at least one comment. Participation in this meeting is required for all trainees! 

The purpose of this on-line meeting is get to know each other and to solve technical problems you may encounter in taking this course. This is the time to ask all the questions you may have before we start with the content. If you have difficulties joining our on-line meeting, please contact Dr. Doe by telephone at (614) 688-1234.

 

Week 2

5/8/02 - 5/12/02

 

Topics to be covered this week:

  1. Overview of MR/DD.

  2. Client Needs.

  3. Communication.

  4. Behavior Management.

On-line meeting:

Thursday at 5/11/2000 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

All trainees are required to log-on for at least half an hour and contribute at least one comment. Participation in this meeting is required for all trainees! 

Purpose if this chat is to ask questions about the topics of the first week and to discuss some of the issues.

In addition, technical questions will be addressed. 

Midterm Exam:  Friday 5/12/2000.

 

 

Week 3

5/15/02 - 5/19/02

  1. Case Management

  2. Adult Services

  3. Case Coordination 

  4. Team Processes 

  5. Client Rights and Confidentiality 

  6. Abuse and Neglect 

  7. Community Resources and Supports 

  8. County Board Operations and Rules

  9. Certification Standards for Staff 

On-line meeting: 

Thursday, 5/19/2000 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Participation in this meeting is required for all trainees! 

Purpose of this chat is to discuss issues and ask questions concerning the content of the second week's reading material. In addition, technical questions will be addressed. 

 

Final Exam: Friday 5/19/2000.

 

 

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Trainees are expected to study all the reading materials provided on-line.

  2. Trainees are expected to participate in all three chat room meetings and to participate actively.

  3. The midterm exam will consist of 15 multiple choice questions that cover the topics of the first week.  The test will be on-line and time limited.  From the moment the test is accessed by the trainee, a time clock will start. The trainee is given only 30 seconds per question to answer.

  4. The final exam will contain 20 multiple choice questions that cover the topics of the first and second week.  The test will also be time limited.

 

GRADING:

10 points per chat-room,

 

30 points maximum.

 

Midterm exam

 

2 points per question of 15 questions,

100 points maximum.

 

 

 

GRADUATION:

 

Trainees who successfully complete the Orientation Program will receive a decorative certificate from the Ohio State University Nisonger Center.
