Updating Text-Only Versions:

(k) A text-only page, with equivalent information or functionality, shall be provided to make a web site comply with the provisions of this part, when compliance cannot be accomplished in any other way. The content of the text-only page shall be updated whenever the primary page changes.

Text-only pages mimic the content of the original pages but are structured so that they resolve most major accessibility issues. Thus, web sites that use inaccessible elements, such as flash navigation and complex pages, often offer a text-only version of the site with simpler presentation. If you choose to offer a text-only version of your site, you must have a system in place that insures the text-only version is as up-to-date as the primary version. Emerging technology, such as LIFT's Text Transcoder, helps designers insure that text-only sites remain current.
